Chapter 1 Characteristics of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas named after I.M. Gubkin

1.1 Brief history of the creation of the university

The background of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas named after I.M. Gubkin is connected with the Moscow Mining Academy (MGA), founded by decree of the Council of People's Commissars in 1918 and two years later, on the initiative of I.M. Gubkin, who began training specialists for the oil industry. In 1921, there were only six petroleum engineering students at the Moscow State University, and the first graduating class (1924) consisted of only four mining engineers. By this time, the petroleum department was already functioning at the mining faculty. On April 17, 1930, on the basis of the disbanded Moscow Mining Academy, six universities were created, including the Moscow Petroleum Institute, which was immediately named after its first director, the outstanding scientist, Academician Ivan Mikhailovich Gubkin. At that moment, there were 360 students studying at the institute. MGA graduates 1924-1930 - MM. Charygin, I.M. Muravyov, F.A. Trebin, A.G. Serdiy, I.S. Polyakov, I.L. Gurevich, N.I. Shatsov and others - became prominent scientists and for many years headed the faculties and departments of the Moscow Petroleum Institute.

During the first 10 years of the institute’s existence, 1,500 specialists were graduated. The graduation of petroleum engineers continued during the Great Patriotic War. IN post-war years At the institute, the research activities of university scientists acquired a wide scope. With their participation, many oil and gas fields were discovered. In 1962, to the traditional faculties of the university - geological, commercial, chemical-technological, mechanical, engineering and economics - the faculty of automation and computer technology was added. Subsequently, the faculty of design, construction and operation of pipeline transport systems was created, in 1988 the training of ecologists was organized, in 1991 - lawyers (for oil and gas companies).

Over the course of its history, the institute has changed its name several times, but the main direction of its work has remained unchanged: training specialists for the country’s oil and gas industry.

Since 1998, the university has been called the Russian State University of Oil and Gas named after I.M. Gubkina. Over the years, the university has trained more than 85 thousand certified specialists, doctors and candidates of science. For 114 foreign countries About 5 thousand specialists with higher education and 550 candidates and doctors of science were trained.

Russian State University of Oil and Gas named after I.M. Gubkin plays a leading role in the Russian oil and gas education system. Numerous scientific directions and industry schools are developing here, headed by the country's largest scientists.

Today, about 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students study at 11 faculties, more than 300 professors, doctors of science and more than 500 associate professors and candidates of science work. The university employs 7 academicians and corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 15 laureates of State Prizes of the USSR and the Russian Federation, 32 laureates of the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of science and technology, more than 60 honored workers of science and technology of the Russian Federation. Every year at the Russian State University of Oil and Gas named after I.M. Gubkin hosts 10-12 major scientific and technical conferences. The Student Scientific Society (SSS) has been operating for more than 60 years. All creatively minded students can realize their abilities within the framework of its conferences and scientific seminars, and gain practical research skills.

Since 1998, a branch of the university has been operating in Orenburg. The opening of the first structural unit was due to the historical situation in the process of development, development and operation of the Orenburg gas condensate field.

In 2007, on the basis of an agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan, a branch of the university was organized in Tashkent.

In 2008, on the basis of an agreement between the Russian Federation and Turkmenistan, a branch of the university was organized in Ashgabat (see Fig. 1).

Figure 1. Organizational structure of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas named after I. M. Gubkin

1.3 Russian State University of Oil and Gas named after I. M. Gubkin as a research university

The National Research University (NRU) is the real embodiment of a new approach to the qualitative modernization of the science and education sector and a new institutional form of organizing scientific and educational activities, designed to take on the main burden of staffing and scientific support for the needs of the high-tech sector of the Russian economy.

A research university is a higher education institution that equally effectively carries out educational and scientific activity based on the principles of integration of science and education.

The most important distinctive features of the research university are:

  • the ability to both generate knowledge and ensure effective transfer of technology into the economy;
  • conducting a wide range of fundamental and applied research;
  • the presence of a highly effective system for training masters and highly qualified personnel, a developed system of retraining and advanced training programs.

In practice, a research university should be an integrated scientific and educational center or include a number of such centers in the form of a set of structural divisions carrying out research in a general scientific direction and training personnel for certain high-tech sectors of the economy.

Russian State University of Oil and Gas named after I.M. Gubkin as a research university:

  • Includes 30 research institutes and centers, problem laboratories that develop fundamental and applied scientific and technological problems relevant to fuel energy and petrochemical chemistry.
  • Creates a network of small enterprises that form an innovation belt and a system for managing innovation activities, including a technology park and a technology transfer center.

9 small “innovative university enterprises” have already been registered, engaged in the implementation of the developments of university scientists. From the very beginning, a system for registering know-how was developed and implemented, which was added to the balance sheet and then used as intellectual property invested in the authorized capital of enterprises. A scheme for registering enterprises was also worked out, which, despite its apparent simplicity, turned out to have many subtleties. One of the areas is work to increase oil recovery. Together with specialists from OAO LUKOIL, tasks were set and technologies were proposed that formed the basis for the creation of the enterprise ZAO Service. The company is registered and has signed agreements with OJSC LUKOIL-Western Siberia and OJSC LUKOIL-Komi for a total amount of about 30 million rubles with the prospect of concluding contracts for service work up to 100 million rubles next year. Another enterprise was created to solve the drilling problems of Surgutneftegaz OJSC. The problem was formulated, a technical solution was found, know-how was registered, pilot work was carried out, and now an agreement has been signed for the supply of a reagent that reduces friction during drilling. Going active work on concluding agreements for the support of drilling fluids during drilling at OJSC "Surgutneftegaz" and LLC "Rosneft-Purneftegaz". Almost all enterprises have already concluded their first contracts with customers and, what is especially gratifying, with the university for the implementation of the scientific part of the contracts.

15 economic activity enterprises; features of the technological equipment used and factors that increase its operational efficiency; diagnostics of equipment at oil pumping stations; regulatory requirements for the system of environmental safety and rational use of natural resources at a pipeline enterprise; liquidation of consequences of emergency oil spills; main directions and methods of environmental restoration work PRODUCTION EXCURSIONS. During the internship period, in agreement with the internship supervisor, industrial excursions are organized, the purpose of which is to get acquainted with the facilities, workshops and research departments, etc., located in the area of internship and absent from the enterprise (where it is carried out). Enterprises, as a rule, must match the training profile of students. Within the enterprise, excursions are organized to neighboring facilities (for example, to neighboring PS), where there are certain specific operating features or new technologies and equipment have been introduced. By visiting industry research and development organizations, students become familiar with the problems facing industry specialists and ways to solve them. In general, the excursions conducted should contribute to the successful implementation of the internship program, increasing the level of knowledge and general practical training, as well as expanding the horizons of students. STUDENT DISCIPLINE When undergoing practical training, the student is obliged to: -completely complete the tasks provided for by the internship program; - obey the internal labor regulations in force at the enterprise, institution, organization; - strictly follow the rules of labor protection, safety and sanitation; - bear responsibility for the work performed; -keep a practice diary: write down the necessary data about the enterprise, the content of lectures and conversations, make sketches, etc.; -submit a written report to the practice manager and pass the practice test. 16

16 6. INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT ON UNIRS AND COLLECTION OF MATERIALS FOR COURSE DESIGN An individual assignment issued during the practice period should contribute to an in-depth study of individual issues of production and management, develop the ability to think independently and provide skills for independent research work. It may include elements scientific research in accordance with the program of student research work carried out within the framework of training sessions at UNIRS, in a student scientific circle or a student design bureau. Individual assignments may concern the analysis of operating modes of petroleum product pipelines and process equipment in order to identify the possibility of reducing energy costs for pumping, reducing losses of oil and petroleum products. Determination of structural costs and search for ways to improve the operating efficiency of the linear part and PS. Students must receive topics for individual assignments from the department “Design and operation of gas and oil pipelines” and agree with the heads of practice from the department and production. When completing an internship, a student must pay special attention to collecting initial data for course projects and works. These data include: a) for oil transport enterprises - the volume of oil transport and its change by day, month, year; - composition of structures and their cost; - means used to protect the pipeline from corrosion, from increased pressure, influence external factors and static electricity; - methods and means of monitoring and diagnosing the condition of the linear part and equipment of the oil pipeline; - composition and amount of operating costs for oil transportation (salaries, cost of electricity, depreciation, maintenance, oil losses, etc.); - operating modes of the main oil pipeline. It is necessary to consider the possibilities of increasing the throughput of the oil pipeline, as well as the features of its operation under conditions of incomplete loading (if it occurs). An important element is to become familiar with the current prices for pipes, electricity, fuel, machinery and mechanisms. Before leaving for practice, students need to take assignments from the department for course projects and work in order to collect 17

17 initial data, which in turn can serve as material for the implementation of real projects. When collecting initial data, annual reports of the enterprise on its activities, project documentation, equipment passports, dispatch logs, materials from VOIR and NTO of the enterprise and other documentation are used. In most cases, an integral part of course projects are individual sessions according to UNIRS. It is advisable that the topics of the assigned assignments be relevant and have practical value for the enterprise. The materials of the individual assignment on UNIRS should be used to prepare a report for the SSS conference. 7. MATERIAL SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS During the internship period, scholarship students are provided with, regardless of whether they receive wages at the place of internship, the right to receive a scholarship remains. Remuneration for students during the internship period when they perform productive work is carried out in the manner prescribed by current legislation for organizations in the relevant industry, as well as in accordance with agreements concluded by the University with organizations of various organizational and legal forms. For the period of undergoing all types of internships associated with leaving the location of the University, students are paid a daily allowance in the amount of 50% of the daily allowance established by current legislation to reimburse additional expenses associated with business trips of employees of enterprises, institutions and organizations for each day, including stay in routes to and from the practice site. Travel to and from the internship site is paid at the cost of a reserved seat carriage. Travel for full-time students sent to the place of practice by rail or water transport and back is paid at the expense of the University based on the documents presented. Payment is made based on travel in a reserved seat carriage. Travel for students to places of practice that are not connected by rail or waterways to the location of the university is paid by the University based on the documents presented. Students accepted into positions in organizations are subject to the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, and they are subject to state social insurance on an equal basis with all employees. If students’ practice is carried out at the location of the university or in structural divisions University, per diem is not paid. 18

18 8. REQUIREMENTS FOR FORMATING AND PROTECTING A PRACTICE REPORT 19 Based on entries in the diary made throughout the entire period of practice, the student prepares a report in which he systematically, consistently presents the material and illustrates it with diagrams, sketches, and drawings.
