Masha (09:48:09 12/07/2012):
White snowflakes timidly touched the barely frozen ground. Unhurriedly, like sleepy flies, they gradually covered the road with a thin layer. So they waited - winter has come. It is this time of the year that is loved by both children and adults on a par with summer. This is not surprising. Winter nature resembles a fairy tale. More recently, thin branches of autumn trees that have been exposed are gaining reliable protection under ice and snow. It looks not only very picturesque, but also extremely romantic. And how many winter fun there are! The game of snowballs, which is so loved by children, sometimes bewitches adults, and then they frolic just like they did forty years ago. Modeling a snowman is generally a unique opportunity to realize your creative ideas. For the newly-minted "man", made of lumps of pure snow, one does not feel sorry for a beautiful carrot or a warm hat. They are also looking forward to winter, dreaming of skiing or sledding downhill. The feeling of flight that captures a person at the moment is difficult to replicate using any other method. Cold air blushes cheeks and invigorates, but constant movement does not make you feel cold. Ice skating, which is so terrifying for beginners, is becoming one of the most popular winter activities. Gliding quickly on a smooth, reflective surface is a lot of fun and keeps you coming back again and again. It started snowing again. Before the janitor had time to clear the path, the trees shook off the snow, the path was covered with snow again, and snow-white fluff was thrown over the branches of the trees. Winter ... A fairy tale in reality ... Here you go. I'll still look for it.

Masha (09:51:00 12/07/2012):
2. Finally, she came, covered everything with white snow ... The earth is white, like a clean sheet, silver frost on the branches. Winter is the magic sparkle of snow, frosty air, peace of mind. Winter is a boundless white ocean, crunching underfoot, the prickly sharp light of the starry eyes of the sky, the scorching air that you can't breathe. This is the sorcery of the early twilight, taking the streets into its viscous captivity. And also winter is frost and sun on a wonderful day, and the most important miracle of winter, of course, is a Christmas tree decorated with old grandmother's toys and modern flickering garlands. What can compare in the brightness of emotions and sensations with the tart smell of tangerines and spruce needles, colorful candy wrappers and confetti on the floor, Christmas fortune-telling?

Winter is a solemn chime of chimes, a belief in miracles that will certainly come true as soon as the clock strikes midnight, these are bright plans and a solemn assurance that the new year will not repeat old mistakes. And what joy the wishes bring to relatives, friends and acquaintances - the kindest, sincere and warm. Winter is a time for forgiveness and goodbye. Forgiving old grievances, we say goodbye to the old life. And we have no doubt that new life will be bright and iridescent.
And only in winter, the head can be visited by light thoughts - the same light as the snow that lies on the ground. And only in winter the soul is open for flight, and the bright sunlight penetrating into it brings peace and joy. Winter is a fairy tale revived, a joy for adults and children: snowmen, skates, sledges. And what a pleasure a ski trip in a forest resembling a magic castle gives: trees, dressed in white fur coats sparkling with diamonds, create a feeling of the unreality of the world, the intoxicating air pleases the heart, full of light and appeasement!
Winter is a flight of fantasy, purity of thoughts, philosophical reflections on the essence of life. The many-sided winter is a storehouse of opportunities and the basis for new achievements. Sleepy nature awakens romantic feelings, and the thirst for life rages in all its might.

3. It happens that winter needs only a few hours to come into its own - overnight it will cover the ground, houses, roofs, roads, forests, fields with snow. And we are all glad that winter has come and everything is white. It seems to us that everyone is happy that everything is hidden under the snow. But the birds are probably not happy. Where can they get food now? Both cold and hungry to the birds, our feathered friends. They sit on branches and wires, ruffled, fly closer to human habitation in the hope that they will find at least some kind of food here.
Who can help the poor birds? Only we humans. Only we know how to make feeders. Only we can hang them on the surrounding trees and pour grains and bread crumbs into them. Find out what birds live in your area, what habits they have, what food they eat. You can make a feeder and hang it in the yard, in the nearest park, garden or forest. You can arrange a feeder on your balcony or outside the window. At first, the birds will be afraid to fly up to it, but then you get used to it and you can watch how they cheerfully peck grains from the wooden plank that you have set for them. The plank should have sides so that the food does not fall off and the roof so that it does not get covered with snow.
What can you put in the trough besides bread crumbs? Millet, oats (you can even oatmeal), wheat, corn. They love pumpkin and sunflower seeds very much. For titmouses, hang a piece of bacon on a string. They dig their claws into it, swing on it like on a swing and peck it at the same time. It looks very funny. If the birds notice your feeder and they liked the treat, then they will fly to this bird's dining room regularly. Do not forget to add food to them more often, it will be very disappointing if they arrive, but there is no food.
Making at least one feeder will help several birds survive during the colder months. Of course, they will not be able to say thank you, because they cannot speak. But they will still be very grateful.

4. Winter comes along with cold weather and heavy snow. Frost binds the earth, and the snow covers it with a white blanket. In the city and in the countryside, in the forest and in the field, everything is white and white. Even the black branches of the trees are covered with snow and appear white. Traditional Russian winter is deep snow, hard frost, windows covered with white patterns. This winter requires warm clothes, shoes, thick mittens, shaggy scarves. It also requires movement.
Russian winter is a real expanse for those who like to play in the snow or engage in winter sports. If you dress warmly and find something to do to your liking - such as to move more - then you can spend a long time in the fresh frosty air. You can make a big snow woman, you can build a snow town and throw snowballs, you can flood the ice rink and go ice skating, you can take skis and build a ski track. Many people love winter precisely because it makes it possible to go in for winter sports or just play in the snow, ride sleds down the slides.
But to whom frost is not a joy, it is animals and birds. It is not easy for them to find a secluded shelter, it is not easy for them to get food from under the snow. Some animals hibernate, sleep under the snow in their dens and burrows all winter, some birds fly south. But those who stayed for the winter have to fight to survive in the harsh winter.
And now there will be short stories about animals)))

Eugene (21:12:15 05/11/2012):
ABOUT A father and son were once sitting and talking about life. The son has just turned 16 years old. And suddenly the son asked his father: - Dad, what will you give me when I turn 18? The father smiled, stroked his son and said: - Why are you asking me now about this? It's still early, two more years ahead. Another year passed, and one day the son became ill, and he lost consciousness. An ambulance was called, and my son was admitted to the hospital. The father went to the doctor and asked about his son's condition. The doctor looked at his father with sadness, and said: - Your son has serious heart problems and I sadly must inform that he has not long left to live. The father went to his son's bed and sat down next to him. - What did the doctor say, dad - asked the son. - Nothing. The father said and began to cry softly. The son again lost consciousness and did not come to his senses for a long time. Then he woke up and quickly went on the mend, and for some reason the father did not come to visit his son. The guy was discharged from the hospital just on his birthday, he was exactly 18 years old. The guy came home and found a note from his father on the bed: - Son, if you are reading this letter, then everything went well and I am very glad. Remember when you asked me what I will give you when you turn 18? I gave you a heart, son! Live happily ever after son! Your loving dad.

Honored writers admit that the genre of the story is one of the most difficult, since the process of creating a masterpiece requires precise construction, impeccable decoration, meaningfulness of meaning and high intensity of the plot. But in this article, we will nevertheless put everything on the shelves and find the answer to an exciting question: how to write a story?

Every day, hundreds of interesting events take place before your eyes, and more than one hundred thoughts are spinning in your head. Everything that you want to tell the reader must be stated in an accessible and understandable form. Those who take up the writing of a story for the first time, as one think that the story is not a difficult genre at all, since it is written much faster than any other. But this is not the case. I would even say that this is the main point.

In the novel, for example, events are recreated just as an eyewitness saw them, the story is their consistent presentation. But the story is the most curious and complex form, since the author will have to select from the set of events only those that need to be arranged for a laconic canvas of the story.

Writing a story

So, working on any literary work consists of three points: to know, to say, to be heard. Let's decipher these "three whales" of writing a story.

Discover - means to know life itself, to re-evaluate and comprehend your own life experience, to learn to hear and understand the world, people. Taken together, this provides a creative intent.

To tell - means to create a literary work, that is, the most important. Namely: to find material, select it, process it, organize it correctly, and, of course, write our story - to present everything in an artistic form.

To be heard - this does not mean just writing a work and putting it on dust bookshelf, but to give it life, to show it to readers, because a literary creation lives only when it has been read, understood and appreciated. For a book to be appreciated, you need to know a few small writing secrets that will come in handy for a novice writer in the creation process.

The first stage in creating a story is the birth of an idea

It appears in your head thanks to banal curiosity, reflections, and, of course, fantasies. Various factors can contribute to a fresh and interesting idea. For example, your mind will be strongly influenced by the impressions of a book you have read or any informational message, be it a small document, a small note in the press or even a chronicle. After reading the work of another author, sometimes there is a desire to slightly alter his work. The paradox is the desire to remake someone else's work, radically changing everything; personal experiences or severe stress; embellishment and addition of situations that occurred in real life; some assumptions, variations of events; the ideal is the embodiment of the artist's perfect idea of \u200b\u200bsomething, for example, of justice.

The next step to writing a story is the selection of material

Having a good command of the language does not make anyone a real writer. In order to become a recognized artist of the word, you need to know and understand life. Knowledge provides only initial, basic material, and understanding it makes it possible not to copy the text, but to raise one's presentation to the rank of a work of art.

There are several ways to select the required material. The first is a description of what he saw or experienced. But this kind of presentation of material is more the work of a journalist than a writer. The task of literature is to create something that will allow the reader to see what he previously could not or did not want to see. The next method is construction. Here, the writer himself comes up with the characters and the plot, fishing everything out of his imagination and memory. And only a few people need material in order to describe in detail the actions, for example, where the main characters live, in what era, what they are wearing, what they do, what their environment is and the like. In such moments, the most reliable helpers are memory and personal experience. The last method of obtaining information is synthesis. The author puts in the basis of the work real events, but with some changes and many speculations.

When there are many materials, it is difficult to understand them. You can use the convenient ones, which I wrote about in another article.

Components of the story

Perhaps the most important detail in the story is the composition. Composition is a good arrangement of previously selected material. The sequence of episodes creates an emotional and associative perception of the story by the reader.

There are many composition options:

Direct-flow - the simplest view.
Annular - here the story has the author's frame at the beginning and at the end of the work.
Point - when there are many small details and details that are ultimately tied to a specific event.
Wicker - when there is space-time scale.
Action-packed, detective, inversion - based on contrast.
Articulated - when the plot at the end of the story unexpectedly makes a sharp turn.
Revolving - the events taking place in the story are shown with different points vision.

The beginning is the beginning of the story. It is the first phrase that is the most important in the whole story. It gives the first impression, which, as you know, is the most important.

Effectively, the story can begin with an exposition, that is, without delay, introduce the reader to the course of the matter, or the landscape, or the action, the description of past events, the main characteristics of the hero, the portrait and other moments.

Each writer has his own style of story, thanks to him the author can become recognizable. This is his personal handwriting, his individual way of wielding thought.
The criteria for determining the technique are elements such as a word, speech turnover, a phrase, a combination of two words, period junctions, etc. Highlight a specific style writing a story impossible, because in one story there is always a combination of several styles.

Details are something without which any story will turn into no one knows what. It is the details that create literary works, they must not be forgotten in any case. Details can be very different things - taste, smell, color, touch, and so on. In any case, it is necessary to adequately describe every little thing, give it life.

That's all I wanted to tell you today. Now you know how to write a story. It looks difficult, right, but it's hard just to get started. May your inspiration and talent bring you success, and about that, and I will share with you in the next article.

Small stories-essays, ending with a proverb, are often given to children by teachers at school. How to write such a story yourself? Examples of such essays are given below.

The story "About the seed"
The author of the story: Iris Revue

Listen to the story

Once Masha and Vanya found a small seed. It didn’t know how to speak, and the guys didn’t know what could grow out of it. They studied back in primary school, and they have not yet had to deal with seeds. Grandfather once read them a fairy tale about a tiny magic seed, from which a golden spike grew. The guys really wanted to know what would grow from the found seed, and they asked their grandfather about it. But grandfather didn't know. The next morning Masha and Vanya came up with this. They took a small rag, moistened it with warm water and put a seed in it so that the sprout would hatch as soon as possible. The sprout appeared pretty quickly, and the children planted it in the ground. All the time, while the days were warm, they ran and checked how the plant felt, not forgetting to water it. And grandfather said that there is no need to rush things, and recalled the Russian proverb: "Everything in due time: the time will come, and the seed will grow."

The story "Helpers"
The author of the story: Iris Revue

Listen to the story

The day off was gray and boring. I didn't want to do anything. At first, Mishka and I dreamed, then we tried to do our homework. But we decided to leave this matter until tomorrow. The game also somehow did not go well. In chess, we lost a piece, and for a long time we were looking for it around the apartment. But she didn’t come across. Then we sat on the couch, and we both felt that we were feeling somehow wrong.

Mom invited us to help her clean up the balcony. It was not interesting, but we agreed. It was necessary to put things in order in the tools, building materials left over from the repair, and neatly put the old toys. How to make everything fit compactly and beautifully? Mishka and I thought for a long time what and how to put. Finally the balcony was tidied up. The mood became wonderful, but we completely forgot about the headache. And my mother told us: "From laziness a person gets sick, but from work he gets healthy."

About helping mom

Mom needs help from the children. Mom is a person who needs to do a hundred things: cook food, put things in order in the apartment, harvest crops at the dacha, clean up the garden plot, work with the children, wash, iron ... But mom is also working! In these conditions, her children's help is vital. And children are taught to work. Look closely at your moms: maybe they need your help?

For many writers, short stories are just the ideal work style. While writing a novel can be a titanic task, virtually everyone is able to come up with and, more importantly, draw up on paper small story. As with a novel, the content of a short story should keep the reader engaged and enthralled. With the right approach to picking ideas, preparing a draft manuscript and then editing it, you can successfully write your own short story in no time.

Steps

Part 1

Selection of ideas
  1. Come up with a main plot or scenario. Think about what your story will tell and what will happen in the story. Reflect on what you want to refer to or what you want to illustrate. Decide what your approach or point of view will be about the events in the story.

    • For example, you can start with a simple plot in which the main character receives bad news or receives an unwanted visit from a friend or relative.
    • You can also resort to a more complex plot, for example, when the main character wakes up in parallel world or finds out someone's worst secret.
  2. Concentrate on describing the character traits of the main character. Most stories feature one or at most two protagonists. Try to come up with a protagonist who has a clear goal or aspiration, but is full of contradictions. There is no need to choose a clearly good or bad character. Give your character interesting features and feelings so that his image is complex and harmonious enough.

    • You can use real people you know from life as prototypes for the protagonist. Or you can watch strangers in public places and take them as a basis for your main character.
    • For example, the protagonist may be a young teenage girl who wants to protect her brother from school bullies, but at the same time wants to fit well into the school community. Or the protagonist may be a lonely man of age who decided to make close friends with his neighbor and as a result learned about her criminal activities.
  3. Create a central conflict for your character. In any good story, there is always a central conflict in which the main character is faced with some kind of question or problem. The conflict must be presented to the reader at the very beginning of the story. Make the life of the main character hard and hard.

    • For example, the protagonist may have a desire or aspiration that he simply cannot realize. Or the hero may find himself in a bad or even dangerous situation, and he will need to decide how to survive in such a situation.
  4. Come up with an interesting setting. Another key element of a short story is the setting, or the place where the main events of the story take place. For a short story, you can choose one central setting and add detailed descriptions to certain episodes with the participation of characters. Choose a setting that will interest you and which you can present in an interesting light to your readers.

    • For example, a story might be set in a regular school in your hometown. Or, the story of the story may develop in a small Martian colony.
    • Try not to overload the short story with too many settings so as not to confuse the reader. For one short story, one or two locations are usually sufficient.
  5. Think about a specific topic. Many short stories focus on a specific topic and explore it from the perspective of the author or the main character. For a story, you can take one of such broad themes as love, dream or loss, and reveal it from the point of view of your main character.

    • You can also focus on a narrower topic, such as love between siblings, the pursuit of friendship, or the loss of a parent.
  6. Plan an emotional climax in the story. In all good short stories, there is an exciting moment in which the protagonist reaches his highest emotional point. The climax usually occurs in the second half of the story, or even towards the end. At the climax, the protagonist can be overwhelmed with feelings, he can feel trapped, in despair and even lose control of himself.

    • For example, an emotional climax can occur when a single man confronts a neighbor over her criminal activities. Or, the climax may come when a teenage girl finally stands up for her brother in the face of school bullies.
  7. Think of an end with an unexpected twist or surprise. Sketch ideas for different endings that might surprise, shock, or intrigue the reader. Avoid banal endings, where the reader can guess the ending ahead of time. Give the reader a false sense of confidence that they know how the story ends, and then redirect the reader's attention to another character or other situation to shock them.

    • Try to avoid standard gimmicks for ending your story. Don't rely on clichés and familiar plot twists when trying to surprise your reader. Gradually build up tension and uncertainty as the story progresses so that the reader will be shocked at the end.
  8. Read examples of short stories. Understand what makes short stories successful and interesting for the reader by reading stories from experienced writers. Read stories in a variety of genres, from fiction to science fiction and fantasy. Notice how the writers use the main character, theme, setting, and storyline to make their story incredibly effective. For example, you can read the following works:

    Part 2

    Preparing the first draft
    1. Prepare plot plan . Organize your short story according to a five-part storyline: exposure, opening, development of events, climax, fading, and denouement. Use this outline as a basis for writing your story so that the beginning, middle, and ending can be clearly identified.

      • You can also try using the snowball method, when first a description of the story is given in one sentence, then individual parts of the story are described, a description of all the heroes of the story is prepared and a list of scenes with their participation is prepared.
    2. Come up with a catchy start. There should be an action, conflict, or unusual picture at the beginning of the story that grabs the reader's attention. Introduce the main character and the setting to the reader right in the first paragraph. Tune the reader into the key theme and message of the story.

      • For example, a beginning such as “I was lonely that day ...” not only does not say anything at all about the narrator, but also does not interest the reader in anything.
      • Instead of the above example, try starting the story something like this: “The day my wife left me, I knocked on my neighbor’s door to ask her for sugar for a cake I wasn’t going to bake.” This line of description acquaints the reader with the past conflict, the presence of a wife and the current tension of the situation between the narrator and the neighbor.
    3. Stick to one narrative angle. Short stories are usually told in the first person, and this perspective remains the same. This helps give the story a clear focus and perspective. You can also try to write a story in a third person, however, this can distance yourself from the reader.

      • Sometimes there are stories from the second person, in which the author uses the pronoun "you". This is usually done when the use of the second person is essential to the writer, as in Ted Chan's story "The Story of Your Life" or in Hunot Diaz's story "That's Why You Lost It."
      • Most short stories are written using the past tense, but the story can be written in the present tense to give the story a more lively atmosphere.
    4. Use dialogue to better reveal the character of the character and further development plot. Dialogues in short stories should always serve more than one function. Make sure that the dialogue tells the reader something about the character who is speaking and complements the story of the plot. Include explanations in the dialogue that will reveal the character and also give the dialogue scene more tension and conflict.

      • For example, instead of opening the dialogue with the phrase “Hello! What's your news? ", Try writing" Hey girlfriend, what's up? " or “Where have you been? I haven't seen you for a hundred years! ”
      • Try to supplement the dialogue with the words of the author such as “she stuttered,” “I hissed,” or “he shouted,” to expand the description of your characters. For example, instead of writing “- Where have you been? - she asked a question ... ", you can write" - Where have you been? She demanded ... "or" - Where have you been? She yelled at him. "
    5. Include a sensual detailed description of the scene. Think about what the protagonist senses, hears, tastes, smells, and sees. Describe the setting in terms of human feelings so that it comes alive in the eyes of the reader.

      • For example, an old high school building could be described as "a giant structure of industrial-style architecture that smells of sweaty sports uniforms, hairspray, broken dreams and chalk." Alternatively, you can describe the sky above your rooftop as “a white sheet covered in a thick gray haze from the fires that spread in the morning through the nearby forest.”
    6. Finish with a description of the junction. The denouement does not have to be direct and obvious. It can be presented with a subtle hint that characters are beginning to change and look at things differently. The denouement can be made open to speculation or complete and clear.

      • It can also be supplemented with an interesting scene or dialogue that reflects the changes that have occurred in the character of the character.
      • For example, the story can end with the protagonist betraying his neighbor to the police, despite the fact that by doing so he loses her friendship forever. Or the story may end with a scene description like main character helps her bloody brother get home in time for dinner.
  9. Edit the story to make it clear and harmonious. In most cases, short stories are limited to one to seven thousand words or one to ten pages of text. Don't be afraid to shorten individual episodes or cross out entire sentences to shorten the story and make it richer. Leave only those details and points in the story that are essential to the story you are trying to tell.

    • When it comes to short stories, the rule of thumb is “the shorter the better”. Don't leave sentences that say nothing, or scenes that don't have any purpose other than what you like, the way they are described. Be ruthless about shortening the story to include just as much information as is sufficient.
  10. Come up with an interesting name. Most editors and readers pay attention to the title first to decide if they want to read the story. Choose an intriguing or interesting title for your story that will encourage the reader to read the story itself. You can also use the theme, a specific scene, or the name of the main character as a title for a story.

    • For example, the title of Alice Munroe's story “Long wanted to tell you” can be considered a good example, since it is an excerpt of the words of the main character of the story and refers directly to the reader through the pronoun “you”, indicating that the author has something to share with the reader.
    • The title of Neil Gaiman's story "Snow, Mirror, Apple" is also not bad, since it presents the reader with three objects at once, which are interesting in themselves, but at the same time it becomes even more interesting how they are connected with each other in the story.
