Chant speech is a symptom of defeat. The meaning of the chanted speech in medical terms. "Speech chanted" in books

The term “chanting”, although not often used, is nevertheless quite well known in the Russian language, and, probably, there are not many people who do not know its meaning. It usually means a clear, loud and measured pronunciation of individual words, phrases or texts: poems, slogans, demands, etc.

However, few people know that in neurology there are conditions in which a person’s speech becomes chanted against his will.

Thus, the cerebellar one is characterized by scanned speech and arises as a result of discoordination of speech processes. This type of dysarthria is not associated with paresis, but with a violation of the coordination of the muscles of the speech-motor apparatus, as a result of which tongue appears and speech becomes difficult, “jerky.”

There is a clear division of words into syllables with a pause between them - while the modulation of the voice and the chanted intonation do not correspond to the meaning of the spoken speech. Another characteristic feature: rhythmic placement of stress at regular intervals (sometimes stress can be placed on each syllable).

The reasons we chant

The appearance of this disorder is usually associated with damage to the cerebellum or associated connecting nerve fibers located in the brain stem.

The most common scanned speech, as a symptom, occurs with, being one of the three (along with and) the most characteristic signs of this disease (the so-called Charcot triad).

Other diseases in which this speech disorder may occur include: various forms, tumors and other space-occupying formations of the cerebellar hemispheres, and rarely, cerebellar strokes. It should be noted that some diseases with the development of this syndrome can also occur in children.

Symptoms associated with chanted speech

In the neurological symptoms of diseases, scanned speech is not an isolated symptom and is combined with a number of others pathological manifestations. Two of them - intention tremor and nystagmus - together with chanting, forming the famous Charcot triad, have already been mentioned above.

The next most common are the disappearance of abdominal reflexes and temporal pallor of the optic discs - together with the three mentioned above, they are included in the so-called Marburg pentad.

Frequent accompanying symptoms also include pelvic disorders, increased muscle tone (usually in the lower extremities).

In addition, scanning can be combined with all kinds of visual disorders, pathologies of other cranial nerves (except the optic nerve), and sensory disorders.

Less commonly accompanied by symptoms such as autonomic disorders, mental disorders, various pain syndromes, and sleep abnormalities.

As can be seen from the above, scanned speech alone is not a symptom sufficient to make a neurological diagnosis.

It should also be noted that the suspicion of the presence of this symptom does not serve as a basis for unambiguously judging the presence of any pathology in the patient at all. The articulation and diction features of some people can create the illusion of a chanted recitative.

After all, the nature of the pronunciation of sounds and words is determined not only by regulation by the nervous system, but also by the state of the speech motor organs themselves, as well as the emotional state of a person, etc. Therefore, only a comprehensive examination, taking into account neurological and other symptoms, can serve as a sufficient basis for a particular medical conclusion in each specific case.

When a doctor tells one of his patients (or his parents) that the visitor has a scanned speech, most often he has to explain what he means. The term is difficult to understand, even to a literate person who can fully imagine what chanting is. Meanwhile, the stated symptom is quite serious and, when identified, requires a detailed and multidirectional examination.

What is scanned speech

Doctors have discovered a huge number of speech disorders. But ordinary members of society will only remember stuttering and burr offhand. But chanted speech is one of the three most common. It is no more difficult to recognize than a lisp. The person chanting speaks extremely slowly, almost reciting. Words are pronounced literally syllable by syllable, similar to how children read from an ABC book. Monotony is also characteristic of such a language, although the opposite situation is also possible, when the patient actually emphasizes each composition with intonation or pronounced stress.

Why do people chant

Scanned speech most often appears in people with pathological lesions of the cerebellum or other parts of the brain associated with it. It is also considered a symptom very characteristic of multiple sclerosis. And the more it progresses, the stronger this defect manifests itself. Often, scanned speech occurs after strokes. Almost always - if the hemorrhage is localized in the cerebellar hemispheres or in the brain stem. Hemorrhage of traumatic origin as a result of traumatic brain injury often also causes the appearance of scanning.
Such a speech disorder can be a consequence of intoxication with lead and mercury compounds. Treatment is always preceded by identifying the reasons why the chanted speech appeared. And therapy is aimed at eliminating them, and it is consistent with a number of highly specialized specialists: ENT specialist, otoneurologist, neurophysiologist, neuro-oculist, etc.

Children's chant

The situation is a little different with children. The child's scanned speech can also be caused by the pathological course of pregnancy (fetal hypoxia, toxicosis, especially early ones, Rh conflict). Possible factors of its occurrence are considered to be birth trauma, asphyxia during childbirth, prematurity and a severe degree of the so-called jaundice of newborns. The consequences of many risk factors can be eliminated if speech impediments are identified in the early stages.

SCANDING SPEECH

a speech disorder in which the patient speaks slowly, pronouncing syllables and words separately; observed with damage to the cerebellum; a characteristic symptom of multiple sclerosis.
